Tafsir of Al-Haqqah 69:3

Meaning: What thing could inform you what it is? This is an emphasis on its terror and horror by demonstrating that it lies beyond the scope of created beings' knowledge. The intent is that its greatness, the extent of its terror, and its severity are such that no one’s knowledge or imagination can reach it. However you may estimate its state, it is beyond that—greater and even greater still—so it is impossible to convey information about it.

From this, it is understood that the interrogation is a metonym for its necessary implication: that it cannot be known, no one’s knowledge can reach it, and neither imaginations nor thoughts can attain it.

"Ma" (What) is in the nominative position as the subject, and "Adraka" (made you know) is its predicate. There is no room here for the reverse. The sentence "Ma al-Haqqah" (What is the Inevitable Reality?) is in the position of the accusative, as if a preposition had been dropped (i.e., bi-ma al-Haqqah). It is not that "adra" (to make know) takes a second object via the letter ba (as in the Almighty’s saying: "Nor would He have made it known to you"). Rather, when the interrogative sentence occurred, it suspended the verb; thus, the sentence is in the position of the second object. The suspension of this verb is, as has been said, due to it containing the meaning of "knowledge." The sentence—that is, "Ma adraka" (What could make you know), etc.—is conjoined to the preceding minor sentence.
