Tafsir
Verse range: 31:1-2
Peace be upon him.
This Surah is entirely Meccan, except for two verses revealed in Medina:
It has thirty-three verses, though some say thirty-four.
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
{ Alif. Lām. Mīm. }
{ Alif. Lām. Mīm. These are the verses of the Wise Book. }
Connection of this Sura to the Previous One:
The connection between the beginning of this Sura and the end of the preceding one (Surat Ar-Rum) is as follows:
{And We have certainly presented to the people in this Qur'an from every [kind of] example.} (Ar-Rum: 58) This pointed to the Qur'an being a miracle.
{And if you bring them a sign...} (Ar-Rum: 58) This indicated their disbelief in the signs.
{Alif, Lam, Mim. These are the verses of the Wise Book.}
{And when Our verses are recited to him, he turns away in arrogance...} (Luqman: 7)
{Alif, Lam, Mim.} {These are the verses of the Wise Book,} {A guidance and a mercy to the doers of good,} {Who establish prayer and give zakāh, and they, of the Hereafter, are certain [in faith].} {Those are the ones upon guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful.}
