Surah Al-Mulk 67:29



ﱟ ﱠ ﱡ ﱢ ﱣ ﱤ ﱥ ﱦ ﱧ ﱨ ﱩ ﱪ ﱫ ﱬ

Say, "He is the Most Merciful; we have believed in Him, and upon Him we have relied. And you will [come to] know who it is that is in clear error."

Surah Al-Mulk (67): Verse 29

Original Text Segment:

قل هو الرحمن . . . . . والمعنى أنه الرحمن آمنا به وعليه توكلنا فيعلم أنه لا يقبل دعاءكم وأنتم أهل الكفر والعناد في حقنا ، مع أنا آمنا به ولم نكفر به كما كفرتم ، ثم قال : { وعليه توكلنا } لا على غيره كما فعلتم أنتم حيث توكلتم على رجالكم وأموالكم ، وقرىء { فستعلمون } على المخاطبة ، وقرىء بالياء ليكون على وفق قوله : { فمن يجير الكافرين } ( الكافرين : 28 ) . واعلم أنه لما ذكر أنه يجب أن يتوكل عليه لا على غيره ، ذكر الدليل عليه . بم فقال تعالى : ! 7 < { قل أرءيتم إن أصبح مآؤكم غورا فمن يأتيكم بمآء معين } . > 7 !

Translation and Exegesis (Based on Mafatih al-Ghayb):

(Continuing from the previous verse, the command is to state):

"Say: He is the Most Merciful (Ar-Rahman)..."

The meaning here is: We believe in Him as the Most Merciful, and upon Him we place our trust. He knows that He will not accept your supplication, O people of disbelief and obstinacy against us, even though we have believed in Him and have not disbelieved as you have.

Then He said: "...and upon Him we rely (tawakkalna)." (We rely on Him) and not on anyone else, unlike what you have done by relying on your strong men and your wealth.

(Note on Recitation): The word "فستعلمون" (then you will know) has been recited in the second-person address (as a command to the disbelievers). It has also been recited with the third-person pronoun ("فسيعلمون"), which aligns with the preceding statement: "Then who can protect the disbelievers?" (referencing verse 28).

Know that after establishing that reliance must be placed solely upon Him and not upon others, the proof (evidence) for this necessity is now mentioned.

He then said, the Almighty:

"Say: Have you considered: If your water were to become sunken [into the earth], who then could bring you flowing water?" (67:30)
