In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Al-Hijr: (1) Alif-Lām-Rā. These are the verses...

{These} is a reference to the verses, the Book, and the clear Qur’an contained within the Surah.

{The clear Qur’an}: The Surah. The use of the indefinite form for "Qur’an" is for the purpose of glorification (tafkhīm).

The meaning: These are the verses of the Book that is perfect in its status as a Book, and what a clear Qur’an it is! It is as if it were said: "The Book that combines perfection and extraordinary clarity."


(2) Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims. (3) Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know.
