Tafsir of Maryam 19:96

"Indeed, those who have believed..."

Jannah ibn Hubaysh read "wuddan" (affection) with a kasra (i.e., widdan).

The meaning is: He will cause affection to occur for them in hearts, planting it for them therein without any solicitation on their part, nor any engagement in the causes that typically necessitate affection—such as kinship, friendship, or the cultivation of favor through kindness or other means. Rather, it is an invention from Him, initiated as a special honor exclusively for His allies, just as He cast terror and awe into the hearts of their enemies to exalt them and honor their status.

The "seen" (in sa-yaj‘alu) is either because the Surah is Meccan, and the believers at that time were despised by the disbelievers, so Allah promised them this for when Islam would prevail. Or, it may refer to the Day of Resurrection, where He will make them beloved to His creation by displaying their good deeds and spreading the record of their works.

It is narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "O Ali, say: 'O Allah, grant me a covenant with You, and place for me affection in the hearts of the believers.'" Then Allah revealed this verse.

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: It means Allah loves them and makes them beloved to His creation.

From the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ): "Allah (Mighty and Majestic is He) says: 'O Gabriel, I have loved so-and-so, so love him.' Then Gabriel loves him and calls out to the inhabitants of the heavens: 'Allah has loved so-and-so, so love him.' Then the inhabitants of the heavens love him, and then acceptance (love) is placed for him among the inhabitants of the earth."

Qatadah said: No servant turns to Allah except that Allah turns the hearts of the servants toward him.

"So We have only made it easy in your tongue that you may give good tidings thereby to the righteous and warn thereby a hostile people. And how many have We destroyed before them of generations? Do you perceive of them anyone or hear from them a sound?"
