Verse range: 7:205
{And remember your Lord within yourself} This is general, encompassing all forms of remembrance (adhkār), such as reciting the Qur’an, supplication (duʿāʾ), glorification (tasbīḥ), declaring the oneness of God (tahlīl), and other similar acts.
{In humility and fear} Meaning: while being humble and fearful.
{And without loudness in speech} Meaning: speaking in a manner that is not loud. Concealment is more conducive to sincerity and closer to the excellence of contemplation.
{In the morning and the evening} Due to the virtue of these two times, or perhaps intending constancy. The meaning of al-ghudūw is the times of the morning, which are the early hours. It has been recited as al-īṣāl, derived from āṣala—meaning to enter into the aṣīl (late afternoon/evening)—similar to aqṣara (to enter the time of qaṣr) or aʿtama (to enter the time of ʿatamah). This corresponds to al-ghudūw.
{And do not be among the heedless} Meaning: do not be among those who neglect the remembrance of God and are distracted from it.
{Indeed, those who are with your Lord are not too proud to worship Him, and they exalt Him, and to Him they prostrate.}
