Primary text

Establishing an endowment (Waqf) is recommended (Mustahabb). The primary basis for this ruling is the narration of Abdullah ibn Umar, where the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, advised Umar regarding land he acquired in Khaybar, stating: 'If you wish, retain its origin and give away its usufruct.' The Prophet further stipulated that the origin of the endowment cannot be sold, bought, gifted, or inherited. Umar subsequently endowed it for the poor, relatives, freeing slaves, travelers, and guests.
